आरएसएस के पदाधिकारी ने कहा कि किसी को भी धर्म बदलने की हमेशा आजादी है, लेकिन आज जो हो रहा है वह यह नहीं है. उन्होंने कहा कि पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री दिवंगत अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी ने इस मुद्दे पर राष्ट्रीय बहस का आह्वान किया था. आरएसएस के सरकार्यवाह (महासचिव) दत्तात्रेय होसबाले ने प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में कहा, धर्मांतरण को रोका जाना चाहिए और जिन लोगों ने धर्म परिवर्तन किया है, उन्हें घोषणा करनी होगी कि उन्होंने धर्मांतरण किया है. उन्होंने कहा, ऐसे लोग हैं जो धर्म बदल लेते हैं और यह खुलासा नहीं करते हैं कि उन्होंने धर्म परिवर्तन कर लिया है. दोहरा लाभ लेते हैं.
